The regulated online casino market within Ontario remains the major contributor to the province’s iGaming sector in 2026. The latest available figures — released by iGaming Ontario on August 26 — once again show that the market recorded substantial wagering activity throughout July. These figures come alongside growing competition, with 48 regulated operators and 83 gaming websites listed across Ontario as of August 6.

The growth is notable given that the regulated iGaming market is now over four years old in Ontario. Rather than showing any indication of losing momentum, online casino activity continues to account for the majority of both wagers and gaming revenue within the province.

Online Casino Remains the Market Leader

The latest detailed monthly figures available prior to the July update confirm just how important casino gaming has become. May 2026 saw Ontario’s total regulated iGaming wagers hit $9.48 billion — an increase of around 17.5% compared with the same time a year earlier.

Online casino games accounted for $8.37 billion within that total — some 88%. The province also saw around $326.4 million in revenue during that month. Sports betting added $972 million in wagers and $81.3 million in revenue, while peer-to-peer poker saw $134 million in wagers and $5.4 million in revenue.

These figures demonstrate how the growth of online gambling in Ontario is not simply based on sports betting. Casino-based offerings truly remain the foundation of the regulated market — with slots, live dealer games, and computer-based table games drawing the bulk of participation.

A Larger Operator Base Is Changing the Market

Competition within Ontario’s regulated iGaming market has increased considerably since the province opened its doors in April 2022. The latest Ontario iGaming directory shows 48 operators and 83 gaming websites — though not every website offers online casino products.

Such an expanding base of operators clearly presents players with more choice — but also forces each company to contend for attention and market share. Various elements of each gaming offering have witnessed some level of investment, from casino games and live dealer mobile platforms to payment options and responsible gambling tools.

New entrants continue to show up. August saw Fanatics Betting & Gaming get approval to bring online sports betting and casino gaming to Ontario — another substantial international brand joining the competitive field. For established operators, the arrival of such further brands means that being licensed is simply no longer enough to ensure visibility or activity within the market.

Why Casino Wagers Continue to Rise

Several factors help explain the strength of online casino wagering in Ontario. One factor is product variety — there are thousands of digital casino games on offer across regulated websites, from slots and roulette to blackjack, baccarat and live dealer games. Such different game types allow operators to target a broad range of customer preferences.

The ability to access online casinos via smartphones, tablets, and computers ensures players can reach these regulated platforms without needing to visit a physical casino.

The competitive nature of the sector also works to improve products and services — companies constantly see benefits in making processes like registration, deposits, withdrawals, and gaming easier to navigate, while also adding new content to keep interest high.

The market figures reflect this development. During the 2024-25 fiscal year, Ontario saw more than $82.7 billion in total wagers and approximately $2.9 billion in total gaming revenue. Casino wagers hit $69.6 billion — a 34% increase over the previous year — while casino gaming revenue reached approximately $2.4 billion.

More Wagers Do Not Mean More Player Profits

The growing wagering figures need to be understood correctly. Wagers are not the same as player spending or operator revenue. A wager can occur, win, and then be wagered again — hence, the total wagered can be significantly higher than the initial deposit.

Gaming revenue likewise refers to the amount captured by operators from gaming activity prior to certain expenses and adjustments. Rising wager figures do not therefore indicate that players collectively made money.

The distinction is important when it comes to discussions about record or near-record online casino activity. Such figures indicate the scale of regulated gambling activity rather than player results.

Ontario’s regulatory framework imposes requirements relating to game integrity, advertising, age verification, and responsible gambling. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario continues to enforce these standards as the market expands.

What the Latest Growth Means for Ontario Players

The growth of Ontario online casinos presents consumers with increased choice within the market. However, the growth in the number of websites makes it even more important to ensure that gambling platforms are authorized to operate within Ontario.

The official directory for iGaming Ontario currently lists 48 operators and 83 gaming websites. Players must be 19 or older and physically located in Ontario in order to access this regulated market.

Current numbers suggest that competitive activity is likely to remain a major feature of Ontario’s iGaming market for the rest of 2026. The emergence of Alberta’s private iGaming market, which launched on July 13, has delivered yet another Canadian market for major operators to target — while Ontario continues to see new brands enter the province’s market.
